You can count on us for tips, programs and rebates that can lower your energy bill.
Ceiling Fans – Not Just for Summer
You may already know that a ceiling fan can keep you cooler in the summer, but did you know it’s also a great tool to lower heating bills? According to energy.gov, switching your ceiling fan to clockwise helps re-circulate warm air down to living spaces. Recirculating warm air can help your home feel comfortable without raising the thermostat – saving money on your energy bill all winter long!
Insulation – Like a Down Jacket on Chilly Days
According to ENERGYSTAR.gov, nine out of ten homes in the U.S. are under-insulated. By adding insulation and sealing air leaks, you can save 15% on your heating and cooling bills. We even offer rebates that help with the cost of adding insulation. Thinking about new windows? We’ve got a rebate for those, too. Windows and Insulation Rebates | Consumers Energy
Reduce Water Heating Costs
Water heating accounts for about 18% of your home’s energy use. So, an easy way to lower energy costs is to use hot water more efficiently. In addition to washing laundry in cold water, washing full, rather than partial loads, can save over 3,400 gallons of water per year. Another tip? Showers use up to five gallons less water than a bath, which can save you up to $145 a year in energy costs. Wondering how long to run the fan after that shower? The U.S. Department of Energy recommends 15-20 minutes to ensure the moisture is removed and without wasting electricity.
Smart Power Strips for Smart Savings
Like many small electronics, your cell phone continues to draw tiny amounts of electricity even after it finishes charging. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), devices like cable boxes, televisions and other electronics can drain up to 23% of your annual electricity use. The solution is simple – a smart power strip that senses when power use drops substantially and shuts off the appropriate outlet. Our online store has great deals on the best smart power strips.
